Barry White and chocolate covered strawberries -- yes, some things are undeniably romantic. Although some below might seem cliche, results are what count.
Barry White.
Smooth, sexy, and unmistakable. If it's not the voice, it is the lyrics. Barry White has a powerful way of talking you into the song. His rhythms speak romance. He has lasted the test of time because he has proven himself, and his music has done all the things his lyrics talk about.

Candles.
There is something about candlelight that hides the harshness of reality. It makes everything seem a little softer, even people. Candles are usually a dim light in the dark, and darkness is where some of the most romantic things happen.
A Kiss.
The power to fall in love in an instant lies in a kiss. A kiss also holds the power to comfort, to capture, and to provide an escape if even just for a simple moment. There is an overwhelming sensation that can come with a first kiss, and there is always that one kiss so distinct it will remain with you forever.
Spring.
It is the time of year everyone starts baring a little more skin, which is definitely sexy after the winter months of sweaters down to here and pants down to there. The spring weather makes everyone more friendly and flirty. Spring is the perfect time to start a new love because everything around you is new: the leaves, the flowers, the animals. Everything around you is alive so it is hard to not feel the same way yourself. It is also a time that draws people out after months of cold-induced isolation, and after nearly hibernating for two or three months, those new faces and that soft skin can be irresistible.
A Smell.
The faint scent of a burning candle can carve a memory in your mind that will forever remind you of some romantic time not long ago. A whiff of perfume can take you back to your first love. The smell of a carnation can remind you of that moment in a florist shop when you saw the most beautiful woman in the world. There is amazing power in a scent. It can define moments in your life that will forever be associated with that single smell.
Chocolate Covered Strawberries.
 |
Chocolates are too traditional and overused, but put a little on a strawberry and you have pure romance. It is sweet mixed with just the right amount of tart, a lot like romance itself.
A Touch.
There is incredible power in a touch. The first time your high school crush brushed his arm along your back, I'm sure you felt it from your head to your toes. Being touched by someone you've longed for can be like having your best fantasy fulfilled in a single moment.
The romantic power of these things lies in their ability to set the mood, make a moment, or just turn you on. Everyone has their own definition of romance and what works for them, but these few things have been tested and have remained effective for longer than most of us can remember. Some of them are romantic without effort, but no romance is completely effortless. Do what works for you and your love. What may seem cheesy to you, may be kinky to the couple next door. Maybe you like Barry White with a candlelight dinner, and your sister took him along when she went skinny dipping with her beau. Just don't limit yourself. What romance is really about is making it memorable and making it the best it can be.
