My favorite beverage was always water. Oh sure, sometimes I get the urge for the bubbles that comes from soda or seltzer, but to relieve that parched feeling, I'll choose water any day of the week.
We all know the statistics -- most of the human body is made up of water so we have to keep on replenishing it. Many natural foods have lots of water in them, like fruits and vegetables, so it's a good idea to eat as much as we can of these. We've also been told that drinking a glass of water before eating a meal will help us lose weight. Some nutritionists don't believe this anymore but I figure a good slug of water at any time could never hurt.
Lately, drinking water is very fashionable. Everywhere you look, you see people walking around with little plastic bottles of water in their hands. I guess you can call these bottles "designer water". There are more and more water companies ready to bottle special spring water or water from France and sell it to us for some exorbitant rate.
I like tap water, it's free and if it sometimes tastes a little strange I can always put a water filter on the faucet and get gallons of clear fresh water for a fraction of the price of buying the "designer water". If you're smart, you can save your money and buy one of these fancy bottled waters and then keep refilling the bottle with tap water. I'm sure many of us have figured that out already.
When people are exercising, running, or even walking, their trusty bottle of water is right there with them. Water may not be the thing to drink to replenish all the minerals you lose after exercising. Some health experts say that a sports drink with added vitamins and nutrients might be better, but water does come in a close second.
The point is, water is needed for us to live, more so than even food. We could survive quite a long time without a meal but without water we would die within a few days. The human body needs water. It cools us down by leaving the body as sweat and we need water to wash out all the poisons that flow through our system each day. To keep healthy, drink water, at least eight glasses (8 oz.) daily -- it's good for you1x
