A new millenium's effect on the charts FREE MP3 & RealAudio Downloads
Despite the dawning of a new millenium little has changed over the holiday season, however, except that Fin.K.L.'s To My Prince [RealAudio] got knocked completely off the list. I'm sure they'll soon find a replacement single, though.
It probably comes as no surprise that Yoo Seung Jun's Vision [ASX] is up at the top instead of Fin.K.L. I like the opening of this piece, and it makes me wonder why Yoo Seung Jun (aka "Steve") doesn't do more ballads. The rest of the song is pretty hip, too. Vision is off Steve's fourth album, Over and Over. From the same CD also comes Party Time [RealAudio], a danceable tune.
Koyotae's Shilyun [ASX] is also holding on to a top spot on the charts, and I can see why. I've mentioned the "Flashdance" sound before in terms of a liability. With time, I've come to think that the retro straight rhythm is actually what is selling this tune right now. Goo, Shinji and Seung Min make a harmonious trio and Goo's rapping is fairly tight.
Although S.E.S.'s Love [ASX] has finally slipped off the chart, Sea, Eugene and Shoo have replaced it with another single, Twilight Zone [RealAudio]. I'm probably the only pop-music listener who doesn't drool over S.E.S. and Fin.K.L. I'm sure they are all decent human beings, and I don't want to hurt their feelings, but their music lacks personality.
I've already praised Saranghae Geurigoh Giyukhae [ASX] by G.O.D., but I'd like to comment on their sweet and poignant video [RealVideo]. It's a nice change from the gangsta violence with which other pop artists are infatuated.
I'd commend Position for much the same thing. Their single Blue Day [ASX] is hanging about the charts. The video [RealVideo], which opens with a bit of Bach, is getting a lot of requests on the video channels. Shot in Japan, the film stars Kim Jae Wook, Han Go Eun, & Han Jae Suk.It's kind of a painful experience watching the story unfold, but they did a nice job with it.
Lee Jung Hyun's Wa [ASX] has lost its footing on the charts, but the new single Bahggweo [ASX] is quickly taken its place. You can watch her play a vehement mermaid in the video [RealVideo].
Obviously, H.O.T. and SechsKies will always have a single on the pop charts. H.O.T. is still promoting Tooji [ASX], but the Jekkies have moved on from Yehgam [ASX] to Geudaeroh Mumchweo (Don't Move) [ASX] featuring X-Teen. This song, based on the Inspector Gadget is fun listening. The Yehgam video [RealVideo] was a little disjointed but mostly sweet, like the tone of the song.
One of the more puzzling compositions of the week is Sky's Yung Wun [ASX]. It opens with a beautiful upsweep of classical music but promptly collapses into a schizophrenic exploration of pop and hard rock. The music works a lot better with the rather intense and violent video [RealVideo].
