Jil Sander & Prada collections

Our last installment introduced you to the marvels of firstview.com, a site which allows you to transcend the laws of socioeconomics and delve into the world of high fashion head-first. While browsing through the wonders of FirstView.com, we looked at two designers, Armani and Richard Tyler. Today we'll take a quick peek at two more minimalist designers, Jil Sander and Prada.

If you are a Jil Sander fan, or even if you are not, run, run, run to the Jil Sander site at FirstView, the coverage does great justice to Sander's amazing recent collections. The Spring 1999 Ready-to-Wear collection, which you can view for free, makes simple look good, and offers you a variety of classic looks that you can imitate very easily and on a budget. If you're willing to pay $5.95 an hour, be sure to look at the Fall 1999 collection, and get ready to drool over some amazing clothes -- FirstView has done a great job here at capturing the colors and textures of this collection, giving you the brief illusion that you can actually reach out and touch what you see. There may not be a lot of variety in the recent Sander collections, but what you see is a modern twist on some classic looks, done in such a way that the average woman can enjoy and emulate what Sander has done.

While Prada bags, backpacks and shoes may be everywhere, its clothes have yet to appeal to the masses in such a way. After viewing the most recent collection, you'll be apt to wonder why. Excellent tailoring and simple shapes characterize the most recent collections, but haven't exactly limited Prada's signature style: a popular look from the Spring 1999 collection seemed to be the bra top and boxy schoolgirl skirt -- and such paradoxes are not lost in the Fall 1999 collection either. Clearly, Prada isn't quite ready to answer the question, "How short is too short?" (Some looks could conceivably double as undergarments.) The photographs are not quite as striking as those from the Sander collections, but that may just be because the background at the Prada shows is a little too dark to do justice to the clothes. Nonetheless, the collections are definitely worth a stop on your merrily-moving fashion train's itinerary.
