from MUSIC ROOM: New Releases for Summer
Flower Band's second album CD had a nice cover and it was in the pop music section, so I thought I would give it a try. Imagine my surprise when I heard the title song Flower [RealAudio]. If this is pop, it's the most operatic pop ever heard. It was a surprise--but it was also very pretty. After "Flower," you shouldn't be surprised by the classical theme at the beginning of Flower Band's Goodbye [RealAudio]. In the end, this is really an adult contemporary type of song, but it's opening measures help relate it to the title track.
Also on their second album is Click-B. This is a group with way too many people--seven altogether. It's almost impossible to keep track of them all: Yoo Ho Suk, Noh Min Hyuk, Yoo Yun Suk, Hah Yung On, Kim Tae Hyung, Kim Sang Hyuk, and Oh Jong Hyuk. A lot of their following seems to come from the fact that they are "cute," but their music is starting to get more popular, too. The first single off their new CD, which is Challenge, is Hwan Yung Moon [RealAudio]. After you get past the fact that the chorus sounds like "Eye of the tiger," it's decent dance music. And although Stocker [RealAudio] wins the award for the most-mangled name, it has a nice semi-rock sound.
Any ballad fans should definitely look up Park Hwa Yo Bi's debut album, My All. The first single off the CD Lie [RealAudio], is an R&B song with just a suggestion of a latin beat. The tempo changes make for interesting listening, and Park has a strong solo voice. Chutsarang [RealAudio] is a more traditional ballad but still shows off the pretty tones of Park's voice.
Cho Jang Hyuck is back with a third CD entitled Love Vol II. I'm not sure how that the title follows from his second CD, Inside Your Heart, but that's the name. Cho is a balladeer, and Joongdogdwehn Sarang [RealAudio] is a standard ballad. One of the nicest songs on the CD is The Last [RealAudio], also a standard ballad. Cho's voice is more exposed on this piece and that adds to the song.
Park Sang Min is turning into a prolific musician. His latest CD, Romanticism, is his seventh. As you can tell from the single Doobuhnggae Sarang [RealAudio], Park's music is soft rock/adult contemporary with a dash of ballad thrown in. Sangshil [RealAudio] has a similar style but is slightly warmer and more emotional in tone.
