From Cairo we embark on a tour of discovery of Egyptian architecture and art, tracing the route of the pharaohs' resplendent barges up the historic Nile to the ancient monumental sites of the Great Pyramids, Luxor, Karnak, Valley of the Kings, and Abu Simbel. Sightseeing opportunities within Cairo itself include several venerable Islamic monuments (photos below) and museum exhibits of archaeological treasures and artifacts (next page).
